Independance after Co-dependance

Independance after Co-dependance

If you find that you have been in a codependent relationship, it is time to confront this to get your independance back.

Although you may have found yourself relying on your partner/parent(s) all of the time, you need to break free from this as it is not healthy and can cause complications in your life.

Many people become codependent because they are afraid to be alone and believe it or not, both men and women go through this.

If you find that you are having a hard time letting go after a relationship and you find yourself quickly searching for someone to replace your ex-boyfriend because you don’t want to be alone, follow the tips below.

Focus on Yourself

One of the first things you need to do to start gaining your independence is to focus on yourself. One of the biggest downsides to codependency is that you focus on the needs of others and you do not focus on your own needs.

Take time to learn more about what you want and how you want to live.

Make Decisions for Yourself

Begin making some decisions for yourself. Instead of asking your spouse for permission to do something or relying on them to tell you what to do, begin making decisions about your life, your health, and more.

Once you are in control of your own decisions then you can start your journey towards independence and total freedom.

Take Care of Yourself

When you are codependent, you focus on the needs of others and not on yourself, this can lead to poor self-care and self-consciousness about the way you look and feel.

In some extreme cases, you may even feel bad or guilty for taking care of yourself. You need to take time to make your own decisions and begin caring for yourself the way you see fit.

If you want to wash your hair with a $6 bottle of shampoo, do it. You don’t need permission.

Be Your Own Friend

Do not rely on someone else to calm you and soothe your needs. You need to learn how to take care of yourself and provide yourself with the soothing you need.

Learn how to calm yourself and even consider additional activities such as yoga or even meditation.

If you have become codependent on someone else, now is the time to break away from that and become self-reliant and independent.

You deserve to be happy and you should not have to answer to someone else anymore about yourself.
