Not everyone has the same definition of success, but it is something that all people strive for in life. You may set goals, make life plans, and try to improve your situation with knowledge.
All these are great ways to get on a path to success.
...As long as you are not doing things to ruin your chances!
That’s right.
Many people are doing things in life that are actually holding them back from achieving the success they so badly want!
Here are some things that ruin your chances of success.
1. Trying to be Perfect
No one is perfect. People make mistakes and human error is part of life.
So, when you make a mistake, don’t beat yourself up about it. Instead of striving for perfection , just strive to do your personal best.
You may not have gotten the job, or a promotion, but you did the very best with what you had and that’s counts for something. Perhaps this was not meant for you and there's something even better in the horizon. You’ll find the right path if you keep doing your best work. :)
2. Never saying ‘NO’
You most likely know your limits and what you need or don't, but end up saying yes to helping or taking on extra work out of guilt or fear of hurting feelings.
You have to stop doing this and spreading yourself thin.
Never saying no is an invitation for people to take advantage of you.
You will drain yourself if you give in too much and this will block your potential for growth and success for yourself.
Trust your gut, and go with it. If you don’t have the time to take on extra work, or you really don’t have the money to lend, don’t do it. Politely say no.
3. Comparing Yourself to Others
To be successful in life, you have to focus on you and your goals, and not worry about what others are doing.
Doing so can cause negativity in your life. It can lower your self esteem and make you beat yourself up for not being like that other person.
You are an individual with your own attributes and talents, so put them to good use. Focus on you, and developing what you have! No one is perfect or good at everything, as much as they may give off that impression.
This doesn’t mean you won’t notice how well others are doing, or how far a person has come with their talents. You can admire them for their strengths, but don’t compare your situation with theirs.
You are two different people, so you can’t expect the same results. Work on you, and being a better you, and soon you won't need ro compare.
In fact, that person may be looking at you with envy later on!
4. Dwelling on the Past
Maybe you’ve made mistakes, but like most people, you’ve probably learned from them. Don’t keep drudging up old failures. Apply what you’ve learned and move on.
Don't have regrets because your choices and actions shaped who you are today and perhaps they were meant to happen to help you build the self-awareness that you have today.
People change and mature over the years, and you can’t define yourself by who you once were. Everyone can accept this, so don't be so hard on yourself! Life goes on and people move on.
5. Ignoring Your Goals
You have to make an effort to get ahead in life, and that begins with setting goals. You need to make both long and short-term goals and keep reaching for them. This will also keep you upbeat and positive as you make progress.
Don’t just focus on today.Think about where you want to be in five or ten years—maybe more! Have a plan, follow it, and you’ll eventually get there.
If you do any of these things mentioned, you can easily get sidetracked and go off on the wrong path.
You’ll feel better and more successful when you take charge of your life.
